Helping Children Navigate Grief and Loss in the Foreign Service

Description: Foreign Service life is full of goodbyes and we don't always feel we have time to really grieve and process the losses. In this talk, psychologist, Dr. Sabera Sobhan-Mosely, will offer ideas and insights to help you in navigating the losses your child may be experiencing - from saying goodbye to friends when moving to dealing with the death of a loved one. We'll provide information on understanding grief and loss from a developmental perspective and share ideas that can support you and your child during navigating the inevitable.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn how a child's developmental stage impacts their understanding of grief and loss.
  • Learn how you can help your child process loss and normalize the feelings that come with saying goodbye.
  • Learn when your child may need additional help and signs to look out for when your child may be struggling to move through grief.
