Change Ahead: Helping Foreign Service Youth Process Transitions Successfully

Change is one thing. It is an external event but it begins an internal process for us all. Part of making a successful transition for us and our children depends on understanding the normal process of that experiences Learning Objectives: 1. To understand the difference between change and transition. 2. To recognize the normal stages of transition 3. To learn effective strategies for helping FSY navigate each stage in optimal ways. Bio About the Presenter: Ruth Van Reken is a second generation Third Culture Kid* (TCK), mother of three adult TCKs, co-author of Third Culture Kids: Growing Up Among Worlds, 3rd ed., and author of Letters Never Sent. For more than thirty-five years (pre-Covid19!) Ruth traveled extensively speaking about the impact of global mobility on individuals, families, and societies, including those she now calls Cross-Cultural Kids (CCKs)—children who grow up cross-culturally for any reason. She is co-founder and past chairperson of Families in Global Transition. In 2019 she received an Honorary Doctor of Letters degree from Wheaton College for her life's work.
